As Fans Of CHH, This Is For You

I belong to a couple of groups on Facebook for christians. From the music groups to the prayer groups to the one where we just hang out and identify as christians and share stuff about ourselves. But there's one word I've heard thrown around so much in all of the groups I feel it should win word of the year. It's the word JUDGEMENT.  Judgement. What does judgement even mean? Or it's verb form judge? Well, I checked out the word and I found out that it meant "to pass sentence."  So where does this word come up in those christian conversations? Everyday, a sentence is passed by a christian on another for a couple of reasons. And most of the time, it's normally because they showcase a different opinion from what the Judge Christian has. So Mr Judge Christian comes to a conclusion, howbeit arbitrarily, and passes a sentence on the opinion expresser. We see this happen all the time on our christian artists. They may be role models and stuff, but the...

Unashamed Because Of CHH

This is the start of a new series on chhinfo. The start of stories. Stories of how christian hip-hop has impacted and changed the lives of people. From people who were rotten, hopeless and depressed, to the people who seemed normal but had their issues. So, let's not waste time anymore, let's go on to our first story.    " I'm Damian Jacobs. A poet, blogger and rapper who loves God so much and rests in the knowledge that God loves him too. But you know, it wasn't always like this. I used to be very ashamed of who I was, who I had, whom I served. I used to be different from who I am today.  Music has always been a huge thing for me. I guess God put this music nerve inside me when he started the construction. Music has always been my thing and in fact, I learned to play the keyboard as a kid. I discovered hip-hop a few years later, but I never pictured hip-hop as anything like...what's the word...clean? Or maybe godly? But I grew to love the music of Lil...

Maybe There's No Such Thing As CHH

"The art form you're doing. What is it known for in this world? It's known for sin, and immorality." These were the words on the last track of Shai Linne's album Still Jesus. And it's true. The hip-hop genre of music has not been viewed in a positive light among "responsible" members of the community. I remember the early times I got interested in the whole hip-hop thing, my mum would be like; "Turn that thing down! "What would the neighbours think?" And you can't blame her for thinking that way. Tracing the origins of hip-hop will even show you a lot of clashes with the authorities. Like, who would forget Tupac and his run ins with the law? And how about all those lines about drugs, guns and girls in hip-hop music? But then comes along the Christian hip-hop genre. Some people still have a long way to go figuring out how the christians feel comfortable praising the Lord with hip-hop. To quote Lecrae from his song Ha...

Song Review: Armies By KB

So a couple of days ago, we were blessed with the release of this single by Christian Hip-hop sensation Kevin Burgess. Personally, I get excited anytime I hear KB has released a new song because he never disappoints. I believe Armies by KB is a song for today. A favourite Bible passage for a lot of people would be the 91st Psalm, which has to do with God's promises of protection concerning the people He loves. Armies is a song that reminds us of the fact that everywhere we go, we have an army of angels surrounding us.               LYRIC BY LYRIC REVIEW  Danger, giants Battle is my story But alone, I won't know That's my glory Shadows you cannot hide me, uh My King will fight The God of angel armies Is always by my side  So this is reminiscent isn't it? Remember that song by Chris Tomlin? Whom Shall I Fear? I've always been a hip-hop person, so I'll always prefer KB's version. We live in a world where we constantly w...

Is He A Christian Artist? is He Not A Christian Artist?

1K Phew   As the whole world faces this prison term because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some folks still deny there's such a thing as COVID-19. Some folks still think it's all political or something. As for me, the time when the reality of all that's currently happening hit me was when the federal government closed down all tertiary institutions and we had to go home. I remember when my classmates and I were having discussions about this pandemic and doing our analysis and our predictions, and none of them were pretty at all. So after all the negativity and scary stories, I decided to share some hope. I decided to share two of my favourite songs from one of my favourite rappers, 1K Phew. They were all from his album What's Understood 2. High Up and Glory, where he featured Aaron Cole and Jamie Grace. High Up was awesome, and dare I say Glory is currently Phew's masterpiece, but my classmates were really angry that I called High Up a christian s...
